In Asheville a few years ago, I had a wonderful depth psychologist/therapist who used to tell me to trust the process. Meaning, trust the process of life to get you where you need to be. Trust the process of life to unfold. Trust that there is a higher power who cares about you and loves you and only wants the best for you.
It is so much easier to think the opposite. That the world is out to get us. That we can’t trust anything. That the world is totally f’d! Or that the bad guys are going to win.
To me, trust is a verb. It is something we I have to engage in. Trusting life is not an easy thing to do. Nobody really teaches us how. We have to constantly talk ourselves out of all the doomsday scenarios that our brain comes up with to try to protect us.
But— what if—we have a loving god who says, “Don’t panic. I’ve got this.”
Imagine how much easier and more peaceful our lives would be if we believed that we were truly not alone. Imagine.
This is one of the themes I often revisit in my fiction—the belief that there are invisible beings who are guiding and protecting us. Or our ancestors.
It doesn’t hurt anyone if I believe this. In fact, it helps me get through the day and keep writing.
So today, my message to you, my dear friends, is to trust the process. It sure couldn’t hurt, and maybe it will help you get through the day, too.
Love you!
Susan
