Hi loves.
I am doing a big push this weekend to try to get all my changes typed in. I am halfway through the manuscript. This is by far the most tedious part. I edit it on paper and then put the changes into my laptop. In a couple of days, I will give a copy to my new first reader. I will instruct her to try to find any repetions, incomplete thoughts, holes, grammar issues, as well as anything she would like to hear more about, or anything she thinks might slow the reader down, etc. I am counting on her to let me know if the memoir as a whole makes sense, is compelling enough, or if I should rethink parts.
My new first reader—I divorced my old one—is a nonfiction writer, since a memoir is nonfiction and is very different from writing fiction. Fingers crossed she thinks it is viable. So it still has a long way to go, but this is one of the bigger early steps.
Does this process interest you? Is there anything different you would like me to write about?
Love you!
Susan
Congratulations on completing your first draft! I see this as a very daunting project. To the extent that seems reasonable, I would love to have you share with us how it felt to do a memoir instead of writing about fictional characters; did you learn anything that you hadn't already known or processed about your life and who you have turned out to be? What advice would you give to other potential memoir writers? I have a lot more questions but many of them may be best answered by reading the memoir itself when it is published. Thank you for sharing your journey with us!
It would be so daunting for me to attempt a project like this but I’m an artist and not an author! Lol! I know that your new book is going to be amazing! I think it takes so much courage to write your personal story for others to read. I’m looking forward to reading it! 💖
