LOVE AFTER LOVE
Poem by Derek Walcott
The move went fast. The unpacking is slow All is well. Back in full form next week. xo
LOVE AFTER LOVE
by Derek WalcottThe time will come
when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other’s welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved youall your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf, the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

Loved the poem!!! So glad that the move sounds like it went well. Unpacking is always quite a chore - deciding where to put this and that. Hey, no hurry/enjoy your new home and beautiful surroundings. God Bless to you and your family. Looking forward to hearing from you. Love, Pamela
Such a lovely poem! Thank you for including it! I’m happy to know that your move went well! It’s the unpacking that wears you out but a huge sense of accomplishment when it’s done and everything is in place! Hugs! 😊
