Hi my friends.
If you are suddenly getting my free email newsletter, it is because you attended one of my classes. Welcome. I usually send out this newsletter on the weekend. I will include a new feature of 3 or 4 journaling or writing prompts for anyone who enjoys writing. Allow 15 minutes to work on each prompt. Maybe do one a day. Here’s 3 for this week.
Write about a fun time in your life. ( if you’ve already written something with this prompt, write about another fun time; or a fun time you would like to have)
Write about a time you were proud of yourself.
Write an ad for a new friend you would like to meet. (WANTED: like-minded soul…)
Happy Writing!
AND. Speaking of writing, as of tomorrow, I am at work again on my new book, the Honey Honeycutt Mystery—book 1. So far I’ve written 102 pages of a first draft. This is something I miraculously know how to do. (It sometimes dawns on me that I write stories for a living, and I think, oh my, what a weird skill-set that is to have!) I have written two series or trilogies so far and several stand-alone novels.
I usually write from 9 o’clock in the morning until around 1 o’clock in the afternoon. I walk around every hour or I get a backache. My daily ritual is to make myself a cup of English breakfast or Assam tea with one packet of Stevia and some half-and-half. Sometimes I go and write at the cafe at Barnes and Noble In Johnson City, TN, if I feel the need to get out of the house. Or at the small library in Jonesborough.
My characters are strong, southern women and the novels take place in the Southern United States, because that is where I live and where I grew up. My books are under the categories of Southern fiction, women’s fiction (not to be confused with romance), or family sagas. The series I am beginning will be a cozy mystery.
Knoxville, Tennessee is my hometown. South Knoxville specifically. Knoxville is in the process of getting a makeover these days while the UT campus and downtown are moving southwards.
My grown daughters and a wonderful son-in-law live in South Knoxville, as do an assortment of granddogs. I drove there yesterday with a knock-out rose from Lowes in the backseat for my oldest to put in her yard. In the front seat was my little dog Rocky who got a bath in her big kitchen sink and a partial grooming. I will attempt to finish him up this week.
Happy Easter, everybody! I’m so glad you are here. And thanks so much for reading.
What are you doing today? Please feel free to comment if you feel like it. I love hearing from you.
Love you!
P.S. Susan Gabriel is an acclaimed, bestselling author. Her novel, The Secret Sense of Wildflower, was voted a “best book of 2012” by Kirkus Reviews. She has written 2 trilogies.
Temple Secrets (an Amazon bestseller) is Book 1. Gullah Secrets is Book 2 and Tea Leaf Secrets is Book 3 of The Temple Secrets Trilogy.
Book 1 of The Wildflower Trilogy is The Secret Sense of Wildflower. Book 2 is Lily’s Song, Book 3 is Daisy’s Fortune.
Other stand-alone titles are Trueluck Summer, Circle of the Ancestors, Quentin and the Caveboy (children’s book), Seeking Sara Summers, and Grace, Grits, and Ghosts: Southern Short Stories.
P.P.S. Little-known fact: There is another Susan Gabriel on Amazon who writes Erotica. That is not me. 😂 I couldn’t write erotica if I tried!
W0w! Glad you got to visit family over the weekend! I just got a card from a dear friend who just moved to Knoxville! She is the one who was living in Greenville, TN.
I still have a letter to you in my head. Please keep writing! We need you!
So glad you got to visit the kids and the granddogs! And that you're back to writing the cozy mystery!
