Some children have imaginary friends. I had an angel. I used to sit in an old oak tree at night and talk to her. The moon and stars were always there with us, as though encouraging us. My angel loved me unconditionally. She would rock me and hold me in the crook of the giant tree. She even told me I would do great things someday. I didn’t even know what that meant, but I believed her, and loved her with all my whole heart. Did you have any imaginary friends growing up?
In the 1990s, I was a licensed psychotherapist. A client once told me that coming to see me was like sitting in the shade of a giant oak tree. I, of course, thought of the special friend I had as a girl.
I have always loved oak trees. In high school I took an art class and a very old, wrinkly art teacher stood with me at the window and taught me to “see” a tree.
“Notice how it connects with the earth,” she said. “Look at how it reaches for heaven.”
The tree seemed miraculous after that, and I’ve loved trees ever since. I’ve made many art pieces with oil pastels that I call angel trees to honor my old friend. I’ve attached two below.
Feel free to share this with anyone. xoxo
Love you! ♥️
